The mission of the Franklin
Integration Project Reference Group is “to support,
guide and assist in the development of an integrated health
and support service for older people living in Franklin.”
A tall order for a small group of volunteers and service
representatives.
Early in it’s life,
the group realised that there was a lack of awareness, among the
older population and support groups/service organisations, of
what was available within the Franklin District. Out of this
realisation arose the idea to bring together as many groups,
clubs, and services as possible in one place and to make that
gathering as accessible as possible to the older people who may
need or benefit from them.
From this was born
the Franklin Positive Ageing Expo which, to judge from
the annual report of the New Zealand Positive Ageing Strategy,
is one of the biggest events of it's kind within New Zealand.
Expo
2011, held on Friday 23 September, brought together many
services, groups, clubs, and organisations with the single
objective of serving older people. Over 1500 people visited and
many of them have told us of the benefits they gained.
Please view the video of the day
below and come along and
experience the 2012 Expo for yourself on Friday 5th October,
9.30am to 3pm, Pukekohe Indian Hall, Ward Street, Pukekohe.
