Projects - KPI Framework

The Ministry of Health funded the development of a Framework of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to enable services to learn about practices that lead to improved outcomes for service users.  This project was led by the Northern Regional District Health Boards and managed by Counties Manukau District Health Board, with key national stakeholder representation on the Design Group.

Development of the Framework was informed by the work carried out in Australia during 2005 and prior work in Canada during 2001 - 2003.  It took place over 12 months with input from a skilled group of sector representatives.

The KPI Framework was a provider-led project grounded in a funder-provider partnership.  Provider commitment to the project was on the basis that the Framework would be used as a quality improvement tool.  This commitment influenced the choice of indicators.

This report proposes a Key Performance Indicator Framework for New Zealand Mental Health and Addiction Services.
